200 Years at the Table

The Finest Tables Have Always Known Lobmeyr

There are names in design that carry the weight of history without being burdened by it. Lobmeyr is one of them.

Founded in Vienna in 1823, the family-owned house has spent two centuries refining what glass can be, supplying imperial courts, collaborating with Thomas Edison on the world's first electric chandelier, and earning commissions that have placed their work in some of the most celebrated interiors on earth. When the Metropolitan Opera opened in 1966, the first applause went not to the performers but to the twelve Lobmeyr chandeliers ascending toward the ceiling as the curtain rose. That same design hangs in Avenue Road locations today.

At the table, the Lobmeyr range spans centuries without repeating itself. Drinking Set No. 4 from 1856 remains in continuous production, including the hand-engraved Rothschild Stars, first commissioned by Baron Alfons Rothschild in 1875. Josef Hoffmann's Series A and B from 1912 pair mouth-blown crystal with hand-painted bronzite enamel. The Alpha set from 1952 is clean, stackable, and modernist, available in citron, amethyst, and light blue, with etched and hand-painted variations. Each collection is distinct, requiring incredible technical skill. All of them are unmistakably Lobmeyr.

Every piece passes through at least 24 pairs of hands before leaving the Vienna manufactory. The result is glassware that has always adorned the finest tables, and a renewed wave of attention from the worlds of fashion and culture has brought Lobmeyr to a new audience. For those who have always known the name, the pleasure is in being right all along.
